Lace leech and Vellacher leech
If your ambition and fitness are not weak, you can make the tour to the Spitzegel even more interesting by riding from Egel to Egel, taking about the same amount of time and covering a similar total distance, but with a little more altitude. Your efforts will be rewarded by the wonderful scenery - and the magnificent views from both peaks.
From the Vellach-Khünburg train stop, 589 m, we go under the train and the main road and up to the north-eastern edge of Khünburg, 650 m. We follow path 249 to a junction, 750 m. From here, path 20 leads us past the Khünburg ruins to the west. We come to a "Bründl", about 15 minutes later we join path 248, 1080 m, from Obervellach, which we continue to follow. We take note of a downhill section with displeasure (those who don't cross the Spitzegel wish they had a bike), but then we leave the forest road at a fork at around 1200 m altitude to take a shortcut through the forest (including "Bründl no. 2") over 350 m altitude. When we reach the forest road again at 1510 m, we do not cross it to the left, as some maps suggest, but turn right briefly, then take a shortcut across the meadow past an alpine hut and then stay on the forest road to the Obervellacher Alm with the Laudinzenhütte, 1676 m, and a crossroads (1712 m) on the alpine meadow. After a few meters we reach the Gailtaler
