Unexpectedly, the "blue eye" of Lac de Taney (also: Tanay) lies high above the Rhone valley near Lake Geneva, surrounded by rugged rocky mountains. The lake and its surroundings are under nature protection, and even a leisurely walk around the lake promises great impressions. However, a tremendous upgrade is possible with the ascent to the northern summit of Grammont, as the mountain ridge stands 1800 m directly and steeply above Lake Geneva. From here, you have a view as if from an airplane of this largest Central European lake deep below, with the French-Swiss border town of St-Gingolph right at your feet. In clear weather, you can also clearly see the Jura ridge, as well as, of course, mountains, mountains, and more mountains in the other directions! This already whets the appetite to get to know these rather little-known regions here in the Chablais, or across the Rhone the mountains around Fribourg and the western Bernese Alps more closely!
At the upper end of the Miex/Le Flon parking lot, the steep footpath begins to the right, which shortens the first hairpin bend of the road and touches it at the second hairpin. The path ascends further in many short switchbacks through the steep cliff face scattered with rocks, crosses the road again, and then reaches it just below the Col de Taney. Slightly downhill to Lac de Taney with the small settlement of the same name at its western end. Right next to the restaurant, the ascent begins with a few large switchbacks initially in the forest, then soon in open alpine terrain to the alpine hut Les Crosses. As a wide path, it continues over the steep pasture slopes to Col des Crosses. From here, it is just under 200 vertical meters to the summit, but first, it goes rather flat along its western slopes to an alpine building and then up to the ridge.
