At Laahtanen in Ristijärvi, there is an interesting small hiking destination. A hiking route runs around the clear-water lake through ridges and swamps. Nearby is the fish-rich Laahtasenkoski.
The easy hiking route around Lake Laahtanen runs in many places on ridges and their edges, but in between there are magnificent swamps that can be crossed on boardwalks. Laahtanen is suitable as a hiking destination for the whole family. The route can be shortened to a smaller loop since halfway across the lake there are beautiful bridges hopping from island to island.
Laahtanen is an excellent hiking destination in summer, but especially worth visiting during the autumn foliage season. However, there is something to see year-round, as a large number of deer often spend the winter in the area.
Along the route around the lake there are several historical sites marked with signs, such as charcoal kilns, wartime trenches, and tar pits.
On the shore of Laahtanen there are four campfire sites, some of which also have an outdoor toilet and a dining shelter. There is no firewood supply at the campfire sites, so if desired, bring your own firewood along.
The maintenance of the Laahtanen area is managed by the Pyhännän village association together with the municipality.

On the other side of Sotkamontie (about 1 km away) on the shore of Laahtasenkoski there is a lean-to shelter and a lightweight bridge crosses over it.

Roadbook
The marked route goes around Lake Laahtanen and you can travel it in the direction you choose. The route runs constantly along the lakeshore, except at the holiday village where it briefly diverts to a path under the power line.

The distance is about 19 km from Ristijärvi and about 32 km from Sotkamo (38 km from Vuokatti).
