The lonely Kynnefjäll, located halfway north of Munkedal and southwest of Ed, is crossed by a section of the Bohusleden. Side trails offer the possibility to complete a hiking loop as a day trip, providing insight into this beautiful and very secluded forest landscape. One destination of the approximately 13 km long loop is the 206 m high Vaktarekullen, where a lookout tower once offered panoramic views over the treetops. Today, a self-catering hut at the intersection of stages 19 and 20 of the Bohusleden invites you to rest. The hiking trail leads diversely through the forest landscape of this fell area, frequently passing bogs, small lakes, enchanting ponds, and heathlands. The continuous markings allow safe orientation in the remote area.
From the parking lot near the lonely yet idyllically located farmstead Kasebo, which is now used as a summer house, two trails marked with colored dots and distance signs begin near the information board for the nature reserve. We choose the yellow one. We ascend the 2 km long path through swamp and forest terrain to the rest area above Stora Holmevatten, passing bog areas secured with wooden boardwalks and wire grids to prevent slipping. Just before that, we reach the Bohusleden, from which a side path leads right after 100 m to a viewpoint with a shelter above the highly branched lake dotted with islands. Back on the Bohusleden, we follow it and at the next junction turn right onto a forest path that first descends steeply, then runs westward with some unpaved bog crossings. After about 2 km, we pass a forestry hut and remain on the marked route that runs into a barely visible, heavily overgrown stream valley.
