One of the most attractive hiking routes in Liptov, not only because of its beauty but also due to its history. Kriváň (2494 m above sea level) is considered a national symbol of Slovakia and a national ascent has been organized to it for many years.
Kriváň, 2,495 m above sea level, is one of the most iconic peaks of the High Tatras and an important symbol of Slovakia. This majestic peak with its characteristic curved summit is a popular destination for hikers who want to enjoy beautiful panoramic views of the Tatras and the surrounding area.
Author’s recommendation

Safety information
On the way to the summit, there are no huts or refreshment options. It is a physically demanding all-day hike with strenuous ascending and descending. It does not include sections secured by chains, but there are several exposed spots on the scree field near the summit. If the stones are wet, these sections can be dangerous.
Tips and suggestions
The ascent to Kriváň is extremely popular among hikers, especially in the summer months when the trail is often crowded.
Roadbook
You start at Tri Studničky, a place accessible from the main road leading from the Podbanské settlement to the High Tatras, where free parking is also available. The route continues through dwarf pine forest, with attractive views of the whole region complementing the ascent. Up to Krivánsky žľab, the route is relatively easy and marked with a green trail marker. From this point, the difficulty increases due to the rocky terrain. You then need to continue on the blue trail. The final view, but especially the feeling of being at the summit of Kriváň (2494 m above sea level), is definitely worth it. For more demanding hikers, it is possible to extend the route back by visiting Jámske pleso and then return to Tri Studničky on the red trail via the former Važecká hut. However, this extension adds about 4 kilometers and almost an hour of walking.
