This gorge is short but still very interesting. Partly it goes over mirror-smooth limestone. At the narrowest point, the gorge is just 90 cm wide while the rock walls rise 150 m high. Larger rock blocks can be overcome with iron clamps and the help of ropes. The return is on an ancient Minoan path. It offers an entry into rather alpine gorge hikes in Crete. “Dog suitability”: medium and large dogs with very good jumping ability can join this route. A climbing set should be worn by the dog to support or pull it up at some steep points. Types of paths: in the gorge, pathless over coarse scree with individual steep steps, the rest 70% narrower paths, 30% wide paths, short section of paved road. Orientation: yellow and red dots, red arrows, and cairns show the way; if in doubt, look out for worn/trampled spots on the rock. The gorge entrance and exit are well marked. Marking inside the gorge is rather sparse. You cannot get lost if you always follow the streambed upwards. Entry/exit and return can be supported by GPS in navigation. GPS reception can be insufficient in parts of the gorge.
Author’s recommendation
In the afternoon, little sun falls into the gorge, so the temperatures are bearable even in summer.

No objective hazards. Some sections of mirror-smooth limestone. Much more difficult when wet (smooth limestone). Experience walking in pathless scree terrain should be present.Tips and suggestions
Take enough drinks (the limestone can, depending on the time of day, reflect the sun considerably, making it hot in the gorge) as there are no water points on the route.Roadbook
First, follow the paved road to the traffic sign indicating the gorge. Turn right there and continue to the entrance of the gorge. Turn left and go down into the gorge. Follow the course of the gorge upwards. At times, blocks 1.5 - 2 meters high must be overcome, which is facilitated by iron rungs at crucial points. In the narrowest middle part of the gorge, there are absolutely smooth limestone sections. In steep parts, ropes help to continue. After the narrowest spot, the gorge widens and becomes greener again. Yellow markings show the way out of the gorge. Now all difficulties are overcome and the route continues on easy paths back. At a large right bend, you reach the highest point of the route. First, the path continues on a wide road. At a 90-degree left turn, leave the wide path and continue straight on a narrow trail. This is an ancient Minoan path, which can still be seen in the paving stones. Easily back to the starting point this way.
