Three springs feed the course of the Spree: The Spreeborn located in Ebersbach, captured in 1895, has almost dried up today due to industrially caused groundwater lowering in the region. The Neugersdorf Spree source in front of the outdoor pool was captured in 1888 and is the most productive of the three springs. The highest source is located below the Kottmar summit: the Eibau Spree source. It was captured in 1921 and is the destination of this hike.
At the station in Eibau, keep left and follow the red dot marking, which initially leads us along the tracks, then to the right over meadows to a small asphalt road. We walk left on this road and reach the B 96 in Walddorf after about 1 km. After crossing it and – immediately behind – the Landwasser river, we hike uphill on Lange Gasse. Along the way, we pass a handweaving workshop and at the edge of the village the Peace Oak, planted in 1871 to commemorate the peace treaty in the Franco-Prussian War. From here there is a wide view of the Zittau Mountains. Continuing uphill, we reach a fork at the edge of the forest. Here, we go straight ahead and follow the signpost to Kottmarhäuser. Two viewpoints on the right side of the path are accessible via short detours. The first is indicated by a signpost; we reach the second if we turn right at a fork after 10 minutes (Three-Country View). From the large meadow, we have a beautiful panoramic view extending from the towers of the Turoszów
