This little-traveled lake hike, which follows the route through the town along the magnificent Kurfürstenallee with its ancient linden trees, requires a bit of perseverance.
The hike begins at the train station in Marktoberdorf (730 m). Follow Poststraße past the photo studio; the street later becomes a one-way street, and at a traffic-light intersection, briefly turn onto Kaufbeurener Straße. After a curve, a footpath climbs up to the parish church. Past the castle, a small residential road leads out of town. Before the end of Kurfürstenallee, the long-distance hiking trail branches off and follows a scenic farm road through patches of forest and downhill to Bertoldshofen.Beyond the Geltnach Bridge, the route first follows a footpath and then a quiet valley road toward Hausen. At the chapel, we cross the Ölmühlbach twice and take the Neue Steige. Following the hiking trail, which begins to climb at the edge of town, we reach the hamlet of Galgensee. From there, a short detour leads to the idyllic Galgensee.At the next intersection, we leave the long-distance hiking trail and follow the farm road straight ahead.
