Kokko Harju hiking route to Komulanköngäs 9 km, Ukkohalla
The Kokko Harju route takes its walker along the riverbank to one of Ukkohalla's most famous sights, the Komulanköngäs waterfall, to enjoy the roar of the waterfalls.
The Kokko Harju circuit is a circular route starting from the center of Ukkohalla. The highlight of the route is the Komulanköngäs waterfall, which has two six-meter waterfalls and an old mill. The best time to experience the rapids is during the spring flood from late April to early June, but the waterfalls are a beautiful sight at other times as well. The route traverses varied forest and marsh landscapes. The route alternates between pine-dominated heath forests, young riverbank spruces, mixed forests, and open marsh landscapes. In the Komulanköngäs area, there are two campfire sites where you can take a break and enjoy snacks by the fire.
The route is well suited as a day trip destination for families due to its length and minimal elevation changes. However, note that the section along the Syväjoki river is particularly rocky and root-covered.
It is also possible to arrive by car to Komulanköngäs. The waterfall is located along Hallamaantie road, 5 kilometers from the center of Ukkohalla.

Roadbook
The Kokko Harju route is marked in the terrain with green paint marks.
The starting point of the Kokko Harju route is next to the Ukkohalla parking area by the shore of Syväjärvi, by the hiking trails information board.
At the beginning of the route, you walk along the shore of Syväjärvi towards the west. At the western end of the lake, the path turns left and crosses the road via an arch bridge. The initial part runs on dry heath, but soon descends onto the boardwalks of Hyttisuo. After about 1.5 kilometers, you reach a junction where the route branches into a circular route. The recommended direction for the route is clockwise, so continue straight along the southern edge of Pirttilammisuo from the junction.
The path rises from the edge of the marsh to drier, flat heathland. About 1.5 kilometers from the previous junction, you arrive at a crossing of paths. Signs indicate that the path is part of the UKK route. Turning left leads to the Vorloki route, and turning right leads to the Kokko Harju route. Turn right towards Komulanköngäs.
After the junction, the path follows the shore of the Syväjoki river for about two kilometers up to the Komulanköngäs waterfalls. First, you arrive at a campfire site below the double waterfall in a calm pool, which offers a fine view of the waterfalls. Now the path moves onto a plank trail near the water's edge, leading along the beautiful spruce-covered shore of the pool towards the waterfalls and an old watermill. There is also a second campfire site there, and both campfire sites have an outhouse.
From Komulanköngäs, the route initially follows alongside Hallanmaantie road for a short distance, but soon turns into the forest towards the Kokko Harju terrain. A narrower forest trail winds through varied forest scenery for just over 3 kilometers. Before the circular route junction, you walk along the beautiful northern edge of the Pirttilammen marsh. From the junction, turn back towards the starting direction and take the same path back to Ukkohalla.
