Kohlwald Loop

The path goes right opposite the "Visitor Center" and after about 100 m turns left past the "Nestle." We cross the night ski trail and after about 250 m reach the "Robber's Trail." This detour is worthwhile for families with children. (Round trip approx. 500 m.) Afterwards, we continue, following the "Kohlwaldrunde" trail sign, past the source of the Forbach to the "Ellbach Lake Platform." From there, we have a magnificent view of the lake and the Black Forest mountains towards Mitteltal and the 1164 m high "Hornisgrinde," the highest mountain in the Northern Black Forest. Walking through shady forest, we reach the hamlet of "Kohlwald," whose name is derived from the former activity of the "charcoal burners." Going downhill on the Kohlwald path, we come to the Forbach valley to the "Storage Lake for the trail snowmaking and Rossbrunnen, the water treading basin with wooden tubs - benches." As a surprise: "The Fairy Tale Forest School" with funny stories and puzzles - for example: "What does a cloud do when it itches? Find out in the Fairy Tale Forest." We can make a detour to the worthwhile "Fire Brigade Trail" (entry left of the hut). It is a circular path of an additional approx. 500 m. At its end, we reach a street, turn left and return to the Rossbrunnen. From there, the Kohlwald circular trail runs along the Forbach and we arrive at a board where we learn some secrets of the "Walpurgis Night." After a few meters on an enchanted forest path, we reach the "Night Ski Trail Loop" at the top. Parallel to this, we come back to our starting point at the "Visitor Center."
