The Black Forest village of Büchenbronn, incorporated into the city of Pforzheim in 1974, used to have charcoal burning as an important industry. When the Büchenbronn residents left their charcoal piles, their work was visible. Hence, they were called "Kohlrawe" or Kohlrabiner (charcoal ravens).
This scenic Kohlrawe loop is not only a natural pleasure with great views but also teaches you a lot about the history of this region along the way.
There are numerous informative display boards that describe not only the history of Büchenbronn’s water supply but also the interesting historical buildings of Grunbach and its village development.
You get a great view from the Büchenbronner Viewing Tower (25m high), which was completed in 1883 with its delicate iron structure. The view from the Dr. Rosemarie Müller Hut is also a dream.
