The Kohlberg round starts in Oberkammlach at a small stream - the Kammlach. The name is of Celtic origin and means winding, dark stream. The hike leads over Höllberg, Knaus, and the Kohlberg on well-developed forest roads and small streets. In 1796, Oberkammlach entered the history books with a bloody battle. In a clash between the French and royal loyalists, about 1200 people lost their lives. Memorial plaques in the Oberkammlach church and at the St. Joseph chapel and the so-called French Cross, erected in 1884 on the Batzenwiese, still recall the terrible event today.
