Along the hiking trail along the Kaiserbach stream, you reach the interior of the valley. Surrounded by the mighty peaks of the Wilder Kaiser, the Kaiserbach valley with its alpine pastures lies directly at the foot of the steep rock faces. The hiking trail takes you past the mountain chapel for the dead - the brass plaques in the chapel list the names of all those who died on the Wilder Kaiser. The hike leads along a path up to the Stripsenjochhaus (approx. 2 hours); if you are lucky, you may catch a glimpse of chamois in the rock faces. Once at the top, you can stop for a bite to eat in front of the majestic Kaiser peaks. The Tavonaro cross above the Stripsenjochhaus is a great photo spot. Depending on your fitness and mountain experience, you have the option of continuing the tour via the Stripsenkopf (approx. 45 minutes longer and a mountain trail with a black classification) or hiking directly towards Feldberg. Instead of a summit cross, a pavilion with a breathtaking panoramic view awaits you at the Stripsenkopf. Along the ridge of the Feldberg (1813 m) you can enjoy the view of the peaks on the north side of the Wilder Kaiser and the surrounding mountain and alpine landscape. Summit names such as Totenkirchl, Predigtstuhl and Fleischbank hint at evil and stimulate the imagination of hikers. Rare plants and a wide variety of animals find a home in the Kaiserbachtal nature reserve. Thanks to the sustainable management of this habitat through agriculture and tourism, this gem can be preserved. The descent is via the Ranggenalm. When alpine dairyman Michael is not busy tending his animals or producing his alpine cheese, he is happy to offer hikers small delicacies and drinks (approx. 4 h 30 min). The hike takes you along a path down to the Fischbachalm and along the hiking trail next to the Kaiserbach back to the hamlet of Griesenau - the end of the second stage.
Author’s recommendation
Visit to the mountain rescue chapel - "Bergtotenkapelle" in Kaiserbachtal.
For experienced hikers: detour up to the Stripsenkopf pavilion.
