From the pilgrimage church Maria Gern, the Kneifelspitzweg leads us to the hamlet Lauch. There, we turn left and go around the hamlet. After a wooded section, the path takes us steeply zigzagging up to the 1188 m high summit of the Kneifelspitze, where we can stop for a meal in the mountain guesthouse "Paulshütte." After refreshing ourselves and enjoying the magnificent view from Berchtesgaden’s local mountain on the town and the Watzmann, we descend the well-known path back to Maria Gern.

Roadbook
In Maria Gern, the designated AV path 15, the Kneifelspitzweg, leads very steeply between the pilgrimage church and the guesthouse Maria Gern to the parking lot below the Lauchlehen. At the first hairpin turn, the hiking trail to the Marxenhöhe branches off to the right. The variant over the Marxenhöhe rewards the approximately 10-minute detour with a fantastic view over the Berchtesgadener Valley from the viewpoint.
Past farmhouses, the path leads upward along the left meadow edge into the forest. At the junction with the wide path at 935 meters, keep left and hike along the path to its end. At the end of the path, steep switchbacks lead to the junction of the forestry road coming up from Metzenleitenlehen. Follow this road to the left to reach the mountain guesthouse Paulshütte or the summit of the Kneifelspitze.
