Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher (1742 - 1819) was already during his lifetime and still is the most famous and well-known German military leader. Without his actions, the history of Europe today would be different and we would not be what we are today....
Little known is that Blücher became a general in Kirrweiler. How this happened and much more about the life and deeds of the general can be found on the historical circular route through the village and the district of Kirrweiler.
The 5 km long circular route leads towards Edenkoben through the surrounding vineyards and later back through the village center to the starting point. At a total of 10 stations, the rise of Blücher and the victorious battle of the Prussian troops against the enemy French on May 28, 1794 are described.
Interesting historical information about the wine and holiday resort Kirrweiler, which served as a summer residence for the Prince-Bishops of Speyer between 1280 and 1793, complements the descriptions.

Roadbook
Following historical traces, the route leads from the start at Edelhof (information board: Kirrweiler and its history) westwards towards Edenkoben through the vineyards to the information board "The Battle of Kirrweiler". On the other side of the highway, you will learn more about the young Blücher (information board 3)*. Then turn left to the fourth information board "Blücher in the Palatinate". Via the information boards "Blücher becomes a hero of the Wars of Liberation" and "The Victor of Waterloo" you reach the Oberschloss – the lost Altenkirrweiler. Afterwards, it goes back over a highway bridge to the village to the historic site of the lightning attack (Dreifaltigkeitskapellchen). From there you enter the former palace district through the Maikammer Gate.
Along the way, illustrated information boards tell about the life and work of Prince Blücher of Wahlstatt, the battle of Kirrweiler, as well as the special historical significance of today’s Palatinate wine and holiday resort.
* If you want to shorten the route a bit, you can turn right instead of left at information board 3. This will take you directly to information board 6 ("The Victor of Waterloo") and shortly thereafter to the Oberschloss Altenkirrweiler.
