Ebersberger Forest, Egglburger Lake and Ludwigshöhe

In the heart of the Ebersberg region, the landscape is shaped by glacial moraine hills, the 90 km² large Ebersberger Forest, small farming villages – such as Forstseeon with the Perschthof dating back to 1328 – and the Egglburger Lake, where the St. Michael Church overlooks the southern shore. The highlight, quite literally, is the 35 m high observation tower on Ludwigshöhe, built over 100 years ago, which offers a magnificent panoramic view. With so many sights, it is no wonder that the circular hike from Kirchseeon to Ebersberg and back is one of the few routes around Munich that is marked and signposted as a hiking trail.

From the station square in Kirchseeon, walk about 100 m straight ahead along Münchner Straße, but when reaching the restaurant, do not follow it into the left curve; instead, walk on Kirchenweg passing the restaurant on the right, up to the Josefskirche, pass it on the left and continue upward via stairs to the edge of town. There, go left down to the busy B 304 and pass underneath on the right side through an underpass. On the other side, keep right and hike along the B 304 until the path turns left into the forest after about 300 m. Now proceed 125 m northwards to the fence of the wildlife park; here follow the red-white markings steeply uphill to the right. This brings us onto the hiking route, which leads us over the next approx. 3.5 km to Egglburger Lake and further 2.2 km to Ludwigshöhe; it is mostly well marked and alternates between forest roads and narrow forest trails. A detailed description would be too extensive; roughly this section proceeds as follows: Initially alongside
