Thanks to its location in the Lower Bavarian Spa Triangle, Kirchham—with about 1,400 guest beds—is a popular destination for spa guests. The municipality is located in the southern part of the Passau district on the Kößlarner Bach, in the heart of the Pockinger Heide—a fertile plain spanning about 340 hectares between the Isar-Inn hilly region and the Inn River. In contrast to the soils of the hilly region, the soil of the Pockinger Heide is significantly more acidic, which contributes to the heathland character of the landscape. Once an important habitat for many rare animals and plants, the Pockinger Heide has become a region with relatively low biodiversity due to increasingly intensive agriculture. For example, the population of the lapwing, one of the region’s characteristic birds, has declined rapidly since the 1980s. With a bit of luck, however, pheasants or even the critically endangered partridges can still be spotted in the fields during the summer.

We head down Hofer Straße toward a new development on our right and the town’s outskirts. Immediately after the last house, we turn right onto a narrow dirt road, which we follow straight ahead for about 650 m until it joins another narrow dirt road, where we turn left. Continuing straight through the fields, we reach the small hamlet of Reith, where we may be greeted by two rather loudly barking dogs that are sometimes off-leash. However, we don’t let this deter us and turn left onto a paved side road. After 400 m, we reach another side road, where we turn left again. To our right is now the Bojer biotope with its three small lakes. After just a few meters, we turn
