Keserűszer - Pityerszer along the Hungarian-Slovenian border
On this comfortably walkable route, which can even be completed with children, you can enjoy a pleasant walk in the Őrség forest, away from the bustle of cities. In the depths of the forests and valleys, you can admire a variety of trees while treading the Hungarian-Slovenian border. Despite the short distance of the route, it will surely whet your appetite for a tasty lunch. It is worth satisfying your hunger at the hospitality unit hidden at the end of the route description. Let curiosity guide you!

Roadbook
From the Keserűszeri Research House, you can start your route following the blue cross marking through the forest on the hilltop. This route begins with a slightly gentle section until you reach a paved road, which you should follow by turning right. On this unmarked, gravel road lined with pine forests, you will travel for 3.5 km. After approximately 2 km, you will reach a small ravine, which shouldn't scare you, as it can be crossed in dry weather. During rainy periods, you can bypass it with a small detour, but there's nothing exciting about that...
After the ravine, you need to continue straight until you reach the Hungarian-Slovenian border stones, located along the green trail beside a deep valley. This is the most atmospheric section of the route due to the valley and the branches leaning over the path. Joining the green trail, you should turn right. After about 1 km, you will arrive at a marshy, waterlogged area, which you can cross on a well-built wooden plank road. Unfortunately, this marks the end of the fairy-tale section.
You need to switch from the green trail to the yellow cross, which, for a few hundred meters, also passes through Slovenian territory. On this section, the usual environment of Őrség accompanies you: a mixture of pine and deciduous trees. You need to follow the yellow cross for 2.5 km. At about two-thirds of the way, after crossing the gravel road, you must descend into the valley of the Pityerszer stream, where the last ascent of the route awaits you. In springtime, you can admire a sea of cyclamens in the meadow on the hillside. Once you reach the hilltop, you can already see the last section of the route ahead.
Upon reaching the gravel road, you should turn right to continue the route, now following the yellow trail. On the left side of the road, in a fenced area, you can admire some specimens of the European bison and Eurasian wild horses. Leaving the animals behind you, you will enter Pityerszer, which, with all its buildings, forms a part of the Őrség Folk Open-Air Museum, commonly known as the Pityerszer Open-Air Museum. As a pleasant ending to the walk, I recommend visiting the Pajta Buffet and tasting the local culinary specialty, the dödölle.
