The Stilluppgrund is cut between the sky-high flanks of the Ahorn and Floiten ridges. It has its origins in the grandiose semicircle between the Grosser Löffler and Wollbachspitze, directly on the main Alpine ridge, emerging from the ice and rocky wilderness as an elongated alpine valley and finally dropping steeply behind the reservoir with a gorge into the Mayrhofen valley basin. The hike to the Kasseler Hütte can be tailored to suit your personal stamina with the help of the hiking bus. Some limit themselves to the short program from the Grünen-Wand-Hütte, others hike from the reservoir through the entire valley with its lovely soils and look into countless folds in the terrain, through which impressive waterfalls repeatedly cascade. The following description is based on the ascent, but you can also choose to hike the long valley section on the way back, perhaps to reach your hut destination sooner.
We start at the level of the reservoir at Gasthof Wasserfall, 1130 m, and disappear into a tunnel as soon as the public driving ban begins. The next two, however, are bypassed on the outside. The road runs alongside the reservoir for a while and continues flat to the Stillupphaus, 1192 m, near the Mooseckeraste. Gradually we pass Waldlaste, Birbergaste and Schindhütte and reach the Grüne-Wand-Hütte, 1438 m, where the hiking bus drops off its guests. The route continues into the valley via Taxacher Alm for a while on a farm track, always keeping to the left of the scree-lined Stilluppe. After a bend at the Stapfenboden, we reach the material cable car at approx. 1650 m and now change to a mountain path. It goes uphill in hairpin bends on the left side of the torrential Sonntagskarbach stream. At an altitude of around 1900 meters, the stream is crossed to the right (be careful if there is no bridge) before more hairpin bends lead to the junction of the Siebenschneidensteig. With a

Mark Zahel
