Picturesque forest and meadow paths make the 11-kilometer-long Kapellenweg a special hiking experience.
The war memorial chapel is the highest point of the village Reifenberg at 387 m. Numerous plaques, inscriptions, and paintings in the chapel invite you to linger and admire. From the chapel, you have a sensational view up to Pirmasens and on the other side to the Northern Vosges in France. On weekends, motor and glider planes can often be seen in the sky, taking off and landing from the nearby Pottschütthöhe airfield.
You can enjoy quiet moments at the “washing fountain,” the “small waterfall,” or at Serinihöffchen.
UFFBASSE! - Campaign for a considerate coexistence in nature
Fire & Smoking - Making fire, smoking, and grilling are strictly prohibited in the forest and must be avoided at all costs! Fires and thus severe damage to nature and wildlife can only be prevented this way.
Being considerate on the go - Always behave thoughtfully, kindly, and respectfully towards everyone you meet on the way.
Nature conservation - Stay on the designated paths and avoid unnecessary noise when you are in nature. Leave the forest by dusk at the latest to avoid disturbing the rhythm of nocturnal animals.
Picnic & waste - Remember a garbage bag for the way and take your rubbish back home. Use only the furnished rest areas for breaks and picnics.
Leash dogs - Please always keep your dog on the leash. Other visitors and animals will thank you.

Safety information
General information:
Particularly in autumn, note that fallen leaves can conceal unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or rainstorms, trees may still fall or branches may drop afterwards. Especially in adverse weather conditions, natural paths can become muddy and slippery. Not all rocks or cliffs are secured with ropes or railings. Sure-footedness is sometimes required. You should expect such path impairments when hiking. If you believe certain sections are not passable for you, you should avoid them.
NOTE:
We strive to announce all closures caused by forestry work or hunting associations on this platform. Nevertheless, there are situations where hiking paths are closed and we may not have been informed. Please observe the notices for your own safety if you unexpectedly encounter a path closure or detour.

Roadbook
Hiking the continuously marked Kapellenweg route takes us on a varied path around the village of Reifenberg. The starting point is east of the village with about 900 inhabitants, near the washing fountain where you can cool your feet. We pass a hunting stand and turn left. Along the Faltenbach stream, we wander through a beautiful meadow valley to a very special spot on the Kapellenweg: the “Small Waterfall.” A brook plunges from about 5 m height over sandstone rocks covered with mosses and lichens. Together with the lush greenery of the surrounding plants, this place radiates an extraordinary calm. After a short ascent in the forest, we follow the path right across the brook. Now a steep path leads us up close to the edge of Reifenberg, where we can already see the chapel on the Häselberg, the landmark of the Kapellenweg. The Häselberg is one of the highest elevations in the Sickinger Land, offering a magnificent panoramic view. The chapel is also worth a visit. Opening hours are from April 1 to November 1 on Sundays and holidays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. From there, the route goes to Serinihöffchen, popularly called Pfarrhöffchen. This name also appears on the local signage. The ruins of the former farmstead are located in a small pine wood, from which we enjoy a wonderful view of Reifenberg and the Sickinger Land. At first, we walk gently downhill along fields, farmland, and orchards, then follow the path into a forest of magnificent beech and oak trees. Through the romantic Heilbachtal valley with a nature experience trail, the route leads to the washing fountain and from there on the already known path back to the starting point of our hike. From the Heilbachtal valley, a detour to the Stockbornerhof about 2 km away offers a fortifying break (about 500 m before crossing the district road, turn left via circular hiking trail no. 6).
