The Bregenzerwaldgebirge undoubtedly has slightly higher mountains than the Kanisfluh. However, the four-peaked rocky bulwark with its captivating panorama is the main eye-catcher from so many places that no one between Lake Constance and Au can dispute its status as the "forest regent". A curiosity of the dark giant wall, similar to the Mittagsfluh towering opposite: the second face, in this case the green southern slope, allows a surprisingly simple access.
At the church in Jaghausen, we briefly take the sidewalk of the main road leading to Mellau, cross the lower Ach bridge and follow the little road towards Kanisfluh to the quiet district of Argenstein. Behind the last houses, a path leads up through the mixed forest and a subsequent farm track through the Ahornen-Berggut, which is still largely preserved in the old style, and later through the Ahornen-Vorsäß, 1090 m. The view of the elegant Allgäu mountain peaks behind Schoppernau and the Lechquellengebirge starting opposite the Argenbach is beautiful. The ascent to our summit destination, which is signposted as a hiking trail in between, passes the Feuersteinalpe, 1350 m, after a patch of forest. Under the broad southern slope of the Kanisfluh, the route leads across sparse alpine meadows quite comfortably along the edge of the forest, with the Klipperen to the left. After crossing the Leuebach stream, at the Alpengasthof Edelweiß, 1495 m, we follow the path to the left of the stream
