Roadbook
After passing through a valley, the “Traumschleife” trail climbs uphill and leads into the forest. We quickly reach the top of a hill, and on a comfortable forest path, we can enjoy the peaceful walk through the woods. But then things get adventurous, as the trail markers lead us right onto a narrow path. Soon the canopy opens up, and after 2.4 km we arrive at the Josefsblick (3) and are overwhelmed by the magnificent view! It’s a good thing there are two benches ready for a scenic break.
Afterward, the trail winds steeply downhill, which definitely requires sure-footedness and attention. Finally, after 3.3 km, we arrive in the Lützbachtal (4).
Now it’s time for a leisurely, enjoyable hike. At first, the Traumschleife follows an easy forest trail through the still-wide valley floodplain. But the valley narrows, and after a covered footbridge takes us across the stream for the first time, we feel the natural ground beneath our feet. We quickly cross the Lützbach a second time via a footbridge and now turn right. Hiking close to the babbling stream, we make our way through the quiet valley and revel in the unspoiled nature: stag ferns, shimmering slate cliffs, and busy birds create a wonderful atmosphere. But the experience is taken to a whole new level when, after 4.7 km, the semicircular Felsenarena (5) soars skyward right next to the trail! The rock faces rise up, rugged and impressive, making you feel small and insignificant.
A little later, it’s time to say goodbye to the Lützbach, as the Traumschleife trail turns left into the Fehlbach Valley. Rocks continue to line the trail, but after crossing the stream via a footbridge, the mixed deciduous forest gradually takes over.
Step by step, we gain elevation until a final footbridge leads us once more to the other side of the stream. After a short, steep ascent, the trail descends and winds through the rustic landscape of the upper Fehlbach Valley.
This wonderful stretch ends at a flight of stairs that leads us to a paved road. We follow this uphill to the edge of the forest. There, a short while later, we turn left onto a dirt road that now climbs gently through the open countryside. After the narrowness of the deeply carved valleys, the open expanse of the fields is invigorating, and the climb up to the edge of the forest is effortless. At the tripoint (2), after 7.4 km, the magnificent Hunsrück panorama opens up again and accompanies us back to the parking lot, where this short but immensely enjoyable and varied hike comes to an end (1).
