The fastest way from the Prättigau to the Lower Engadine leads through the long tunnel of the Vereina Tunnel, perhaps the most beautiful on our hiking routes to the enchanting Jörisee lakes, to the Jörifless Pass, and over two alpine pastures (Alp Jörifless Dadaint and Alp Jörifless Dadora) to Röven on the road to the Flüelapass. Not only the lakes but also the mighty peaks of the Silvretta Alps, such as Plattenhörner or Piz Linard, are a scenic highlight. From Röven, you return by bus to Davos and by the Rhaetian Railway to Klosters. And the second great way into the Lower Engadine? It leads – although with the disadvantage that the Jörisee lakes are not touched – quite directly from the Berghaus Vereina to the Vereinapass. Here, we are surprised by an almost intimidating close-up view of Plattenhörner and Piz Linard. The descent leads through an unusually rough and pristine mountain landscape: through the Val Sagliains to Susch. Particularly fit mountain hikers can ascend from Susch to the castle ruins ("Fortezza") on Caschlina in 30 minutes. The impressive facility is well secured. It was built in 1635 by Duke Rohan.
As a day tour from Klosters or Monbiel, this mountain hike is only recommended for very well-trained mountain enthusiasts. "Normal" hikers use the mountain lodge taxi or ascend without orientation difficulties from Monbiel (reachable by local bus) on a forest road or footpath to Berghaus Vereina the day before. The cozy accommodation is popular, so registration is recommended in high season. From the lodge, we cross the Vernelabach and hike south to a fork in the trail. Here, straight ahead always near the Jöribach, partly through somewhat swampy terrain through the valley. A stream gorge forces us to detour into the flank. We swing to the left and reach the next high plateau in a loop. Shortly after, we are again pushed to the left and finally ascend through rocky terrain to the Jörisee lakes.
