Among the classic, though somewhat neglected in recent times, hiking areas of the central Salzkammergut is the Jochwand on the west side of the Goiserer Tal basin. This is evidenced by some decayed paths as well as some closed-down restaurants. The circular hiking trail presented here offers the opportunity to rediscover this charming area and explore its beauties.
From the marketplace in Bad Goisern, take the local road 50 m north to the left turn of the Jochwand trail. Follow it westward to the Sophienbrücke over the Traun and beyond it take an asphalt road to the right into the Rassinggraben. Where the road leaves it again to the right, continue on the cart track in the valley to a junction and then straight ahead again (always keep right at the following junctions!) to the Unterjoch farm, 570 m. On a footpath initially across a meadow, then steeply up in switchbacks through the forest to the ridge top of the Jochwand, 805 m, with a forest road. Take it briefly to the right, then turn right to the Jochwand observation pavilion, 800 m. Return to the forest road and follow it through the forest to the left (southwest) to the Obermuth-Wiesensattel, 830 m, with houses. Just beyond the saddle, the crossing asphalt road goes through forest and over meadows upwards to the Hochmuth mountain shoulder, 898 m (with private house). Return to the Jochwand
