Here you have the opportunity to explore the Jels Lakes and the forests around Jels as you walk around Jels Midtsø.
The landscape around Jels was formed during the last Ice Age, when the main ice margin extended down through the area. The Jels Lakes were formed at the bottom of a small tunnel valley.
The forests are remnants of the once-mighty Farris Forest, which stretched across Jutland as late as the 1700s. The forest consists primarily of beech trees and areas of mixed woodland.
The trail runs close to the lakeshore for part of the way but also enters the forest.
From the parking lot at Jels Voldsted, there are lovely views of the lake and amenities including tables and benches, a campfire site with a grill rack, a nature playground, and informational signs about the area’s history.
