For the Mecklenburg national poet Fritz Reuter, Ivenack was "the dearest thing I knew on earth." The ancient oaks continue to captivate, even though clear signs of decay are now visible. However, no life-extending interventions are planned for the giant trees; it is hoped they will survive for several more generations as they are. The park is also a wildlife enclosure with red deer and pigs, and since 2017 there has been a 620 m long treetop path.
The small circular hike begins at the entrance to the Ivenack Oaks. We first purchase an admission ticket and immediately pass archaic-looking oaks behind the ticket booth; the mightiest one has a trunk circumference of almost 11 m and is about 1000 years old. Shortly after a turnoff to an orchard and the ascent to the treetop path, a thatched round hut is reached. At the junction after the round hut, we keep left towards the roe deer meadow. There, almost always freely grazing roe deer can be seen. The tame red deer have almost lost their fear of visitors and can be observed and photographed up close. Continuing on the main path, we soon reach a Baroque pavilion housing a permanent exhibition on the life span of the oaks. Next to it, a self-service café with a nice garden terrace invites you to rest. South of the Baroque pavilion, the park area is exited through the Klockow Gate.
