Selected alternatives for you
A truly beautiful hiking trail that leads you to many highlights of the northern Ith!
The first third of the hiking route is challenging and steeply ascends at the Ith Tower, but once you are at the top, have taken a break at the Ith Tower, and then set off again, you are fully rewarded for the climb!
Of course, the path can also be extended over the entire E11 curve upwards to see a few more cliffs! But even as it is, you will get full value on the CO 3!

This varied and demanding circular trail rises over 310 meters and is about 11 km long. It initially gently leads to the castle and estate Bisperode, which is near the Bisperode church. An information board at the driveway gives you an insight into the castle’s chronicle
as well as the name development of Bisperode. Further information prepares you for the fascination of the Ith.
The hiking trail now steadily ascends towards the Ith ridge. After a bend on the serpent path, you encounter the legendary werewolf 9), learn about
the outcome of Hermann the Cherusci’s battle with the Romans 4), and read historical accounts of Jütgrund. As here and also at the forester’s lodge, you have a wide view across the land. Perhaps you will spot the setting of the altar stone story 2) or even see the maiden at Petershof 1).
Before the very steep ascent to the Ith ridge, an information board whets your appetite for the Ith Tower. On the roughly 200 m long and unpaved path further up the mountain, good fitness is required. Then 64 steps up to the Ith Tower and you have a
wonderful view over Bisperode and its magnificent baroque water castle. A true reward for your efforts.
On the Ith-Hils Trail, you reach the legendary rock formation Mönchenstein without major effort. Linger here a bit to learn from the podcast legends about the giants and dwarfs living here 36), the bread-baking giant monk 33), or twelve monks 37).
Along the ridge path, alongside the Saubring-Oberberg nature reserve, it continues to the legendary rocks “Adam and Eve", at the foot of the descending path, where you learn about the creator’s mishap and the origin of this strange rock pair 46) as well as a formerly practiced tradition.
On the last part of the circular path, a bench at the forest edge invites you to rest. Let yourself be enchanted once more before the landscape panorama by legends that tell of light beings and dwarfs 15).
From here, the parking lot is not far.
The hike with suitable shoes takes 3 ½ to 4 hours.
