Sigillo is a charming town that preserves the characteristics of a medieval village surrounded by beautiful mountains and hills crowned by the massif of M. Cucco.
The excursion starts just leaving the village following the road that climbs to Val di Ranco. Leaving the car in the parking lot in front of a signboard, reach the first hairpin where s.238 (ex13) starts towards the Lecce Balzes. (1,2,3)
Crossing the stream, the path winds along a dirt road with, a little ahead, an area equipped as a natural gym where you can already admire the Lecce Split.
There is a legend in which Jupiter orders the god Vulcan, who had his forge in M. Cucco, to forge a sword; it was made and tested on the rock, splitting it with a single blow. (4,5,6,7)
Continue crossing and skirting the stream mainly on the right side. (8,9,10)
Following the signs, reach the beginning of the Gorghe Gorge announced by the Gorghe Spring, a horizontal opening in the rock from which, during heavy rain, a strong water jet in the shape of a fan comes out. (11,12)
From here, always with s.238, go right to enter the gorge. (13)
After crossing, helped by logs, a small but deep water basin, climb to enter the short, suggestive gorge, a stretch equipped with iron brackets anchored in the rock. (14,15,16,17)
Follow the stream in its natural riverbed through very high and close rock walls, paying close attention at the point where you leave the gravel bottom to overcome on the right a very short breccia slope that immediately leads to a comfortable path. (18,19,20,21,22,23)
Climb until reaching the Costa Poggio Alto junction then go down to the right for a short stretch to admire from above the Lecce Balza. (24,25)
Climb back to the signpost and then right to the nearby asphalt road that climbs towards Val di Ranco. (26,27,28)
At this point, follow the downhill asphalt to return to the starting point or leave a vehicle here for a more comfortable return.
