more info ...
Departure from Piaggiasecca, a village that some locals have turned into a small open-air museum of the farming world. (1,2,3)
After passing the barrier, go up to the left, path 136B, and at the shrine go to the right, path 136C. (4,5,6,7,8,9)
After a short descent, you reach a fork; to the left continues path 136C, which must be left to take the dirt road descending to the right, s.n., towards Fontecelle spring. (10,11)
Follow the signs and continue on the forest track until, well hidden, you will notice a beautiful and evocative waterfall: the Sturo della Piscia. (12,13,14,15)
A natural drop of more than 15 meters of the homonymous stream originating from the slopes between Monte lo Spicchio and Monte la Croce. (16,17,18,19, 20,21)
The water disperses into a thousand streams and billions of droplets flowing on the moss, depositing over the years on the rock forming a remarkable limestone concretion similar to travertine. (22,23)
After the pleasant stop, continue descending crossing and then following along the stream. (24,25,26,27)
Soon the path becomes a dirt road to be followed until reaching the asphalt road. Go to the left and enter San Felice. (28,29,30)
The village once had a watchtower now disappeared, only the toponym "La Torre" remains. Its church, dedicated to the saint it is named after, is built in a beautiful spot, isolated on a hill overlooking the valley below. (31,32)
After passing the village to the last houses, return to the dirt road and go left, path 136C. (33,34,35)
Along the road, first uphill, there are plenty of ferns such as Cedracca (Ceterach Officinarum) or Rust Herb or Stonebreaker because growing between stones it slowly breaks them; in ancient times, it was believed that Cedracca had the power to remove pain from the body, prevented misfortunes, and was used to stuff pillows. (36,37,38,39)
Then the Sweet Fern (Polypodium Vulgare) or false licorice; the name comes from the Greek polys (many) and pòdos (foot) perhaps due to the lobes of the frond resembling many feet and toes.
Continuing the dirt road becomes a nice path in the beech forest. After passing a beautiful spring on the right, return on the path taken on the way to Piaggiasecca. (40,41,42,43,44,45,46)
