We are in the western part of the Parque Nacional Torres del Paine on one of the most popular hiking trails. From there, we have a spectacular view over Lago Grey and the Grey Glacier. We are not heading for a summit ascent, but for a scenic hike to several viewpoints. The route is easy and the path is very accessible. We follow a path laid out in the national park, gaining height on the way there and first reaching the view of the Grey Glacier, then the Isla de los Hielos viewpoint. There, the scenery opens up over water, ice and the dark ridges of the Patagonian mountains. It is precisely this sequence that makes the tour so appealing: We don't just walk to a single destination, but experience several staggered viewpoints, each offering a slightly different perspective of the same landscape.
