From the former monastery village of Ilfeld, we hike to the "little brother" of the Paris Eiffel Tower, the Poppenberg Tower, and can then visit the Rabensteiner Stollen, once the only coal mine in the Harz.

Our starting point Ilfeld has already undergone a remarkable transformation: from Ilburg and the monastery village in the 12th century, through its period as a hut village in the late Middle Ages, to today’s spa town with a specialist clinic for internal medicine, the Neander Clinic. Those interested in mining should not miss the Rabensteiner Stollen, one of the very few coal visitor mines in Germany. Here, you can admire the last remnants of coal, fossils, original workplaces, mined-out seams, and mining sections often only 60 cm high. Outside the village, on the hike through the gentle hills of the South Harz landscape, one viewpoint follows another, the highlight in the truest sense of the word being the Poppenberg Tower.
