Holsteinische Schweiz
North of the Ihlseewald, the Trave meadows open up, featuring a diverse range of vegetation that changes significantly with the seasons. In this valley crisscrossed by springs, various characteristic plant species grow, including the broad-leaved orchid, the tall cowslip, the iris, valerian, and the shaggy willowherb. In summer, the floating buttercup also adds a splash of bright yellow to certain sections of the Trave.
The meadows provide a valuable habitat for numerous animal species. Here, visitors can observe, among others, the banded demoiselle dragonfly as well as various bird species such as the wood warbler, the corn bunting, the kingfisher, and the middle spotted woodpecker.
