If you think of the word »Igl« as referring to the hedgehog, you are mistaken. »Igl Compass« simply means »the Circle« and in our case refers to a wonderful viewing peak, which, however, demands quite a bit of stamina from its visitors.
From Preda you hike with good altitude gain through the forest and to the Zavretta Alp. Only briefly comfortably in the valley floor and then steeply to the right to a ridge. Then continue to the Fuorcla Zavretta, a saddle between the mighty Piz Üertsch and the Igl Compass. Below the notch already onto the ridge and on clear paths without difficulty to the summit of the Igl Compass, where we are already awaited: by a large number of stone cairns of different sizes. Magnificent view, beautiful deep view of the Lai da Palpuogna. The descent first leads to the Fuorcla Zavretta, 2901 m, then – sparsely marked – to the Terrassas plateau and down steep south slopes to the Albulapass/Pass d’Alvra.
