In summer, the valley of the Greßbach and that of the Hundsbach are rather quiet. If you are looking for tranquility, forest, and mountain solitude, then you are exactly right here. In winter, on the other hand, the area around Hundseck shows itself as an excellent winter sports area. Located directly on the Black Forest High Road, between Baden-Baden and Kniebis, Hundseck is perfectly accessible. Several ski lifts, »Bühlertal«, »Hundseck« and »Mehliskopf,« as well as an extensive network of cross-country ski trails, make winter sports pleasures really arise in the white splendor.
On the circular hike around the Bettelmannskopf, you reach a scenic topographic highlight of the day on the Hochkopf.
We start at the Black Forest High Road from the parking lot of the ski lifts at Hundseck, 884 m, by walking east on the country road towards Hundsbach. Shortly after the former hotel, a narrow path leads right down to the ski slope and the Bühlertal ski hut. During the descent on the wide gravel road, the wildly rushing Greßbach accompanies us on the right. The hiking trail leisurely winds through the partly open forest and repeatedly crosses small water streams. In the clearing called Studentenloch, we continue walking downstream. Soon we reach the houses of Aschenplatz, 684 m. At the little bridge, we turn right across the stream and walk uphill on the paved road towards the southwest, keeping right at the fork. After the lovely place, we go uphill in the nearby forest, and the rushing Hundsbach accompanies us on the right.
