Hike / walk on the bike and hiking trail along the Ohmbach in a southern direction, then continuing on the footpath "Am Pfad", past the former site of "Schloss Pettersheim" (it was completely destroyed in 1793)
At the exit of the village, turn onto the bike and hiking trail towards Ohmbach. After a short time, you will reach the "Kaffeemanufaktur Reismühle" and then meet the "Diamantschleiferweg", which you follow uphill. After a long ascent, you reach a magnificent high forest with an intact population of beeches, oaks, and maples.
Enjoy this beautiful forest path now towards the disused quarry Herschweiler-Pettersheim, today a biotope with diverse flora and fauna. Hardstones from this quarry were already used in 1844 to repair the Kaiserstraße between Homburg and Limbach. Stones hewn for this purpose are said to have even been used in the 19th century to pave the Champs-Élysées in Paris.
Continue to the Villa Rustica, the foundations of a Roman estate, which is believed to have been built in the 2nd or 3rd century. The return route takes you downhill into the new development area of Herschweiler-Pettersheim and further down, following the signs, downhill back to the bike and hiking trail, returning to the starting point at the village square opposite "Simones Café Bistro".
