The HP2 hiking trail leads you past the Protestant church of St. Michael up to the sports field. You continue uphill to the viewpoint "Schöne Aussicht" with a wonderful panoramic view of the Potzberg (567m), the highest mountain in the region, and further south to the "Sickinger Höhe" (Franz von Sickingen).
Follow the beautiful forest path to the disused quarry of Herschweiler-Pettersheim, now a biotope with diverse flora and fauna.
Hardstones from this quarry were already used in 1844 to repair the imperial road between Homburg and Limbach. Cut cobblestones from here are even said to have been used in the 19th century in Paris for paving the Champs-Élysées.
It then continues to the Villa Rustica, the foundations of a Roman estate believed to have been built in the 2nd or 3rd century. The return path takes you downhill to the new development area of Herschweiler-Pettersheim and further downhill following the signs back to the cycle and hiking trail, returning to the starting point at the village square opposite "Simones Café Bistro".
