Beautiful hike from the summit of the Hohneck to the "mountain lake" Schiessenrothried with a slightly alpine character…

First, from the parking lot to the summit of the Hohneck, where you have a magnificent view: Black Forest, Rhine plain, High Vosges, and in clear weather up to the Alps only 100 miles away. No wonder, since the Hohneck is the third highest peak in the Vosges. Then you continuously descend via the Col de Schaeferthal on a path with some block scree to the mountain hut "Schiessenrothried." From now on, it goes in pleasant switchbacks through the forest to the lake. The mountain lake (reservoir) lies picturesquely in front of the Hohneck. From here, you initially climb steeply again through the forest on an occasionally alpine-like path up to the Col du Wormspel. From there, it is another 330 ft back to the Hohneck summit… Path types: continuously more or less wide mountain trails (often wet on the ascent side!) Orientation: first follow the red square to the lake, then the blue triangle. Those unfamiliar should carry a GPS or map. Go clockwise: descent to the lake is easier this way…
