From the Urillertal valley to the holy mountain of the Celts

From the glacial valley of the Iller in the Unterallgäu region, a rarely used route leads to the mixed forest hilltop of Hohenrain Castle, where the Celts already had a hilltop sanctuary in the third century. The medieval Kapf castle was located a short distance to the north.

If we follow the sidewalk along the road towards Woringen from the bus stop in Zell, 651 m, the hiking sign at the end of the village points to the meadow path across the Zell stream to the skate park. A little later, we cross a meadow without a path and soon come across the ascending forest path signposted to Woringen at a high seat. Further on, a forest path leads straight downhill, past a single property in the scattered hamlet of Wälder.Turning left onto a quiet municipal road, we pass a few farms after a blind bend and take the forest path branching off southwards at the "Wälder 7-9" sign.At the next fork, we turn right, then straight ahead and cross the Zell - Kronburg road at the Wieslingshof wasteland. Soon after a bend, the slightly ascending route joins the Jakobus pilgrims' path. Where this begins to descend, we continue uphill towards Burgstall. From a cross, a short lane swings up to a plateau with a memorial stone on the Hohenrain, 759 m.Back on the Jakobusweg, we leave
