Günther Weinert
The blooming period of the tulip trees is from May to June, but the enchanted paths in this paradisiacal water landscape are an experience at any time of year, even in fog and snow. The path variations in the nature reserve are varied. However, the route is not passable during Rhine floods.
The ecosystem of this floodplain forest shows the nature lover different deciduous trees, some covered with ivy and lianas, dense impenetrable undergrowth, and diverse ponds with adjacent reed areas. A primeval forest and refuge for the endangered bird world... and if you're lucky, you can also observe "flying jewels." For many, the passing ships on the Rhine are a highlight of the route.

The Palatinate is a wonderful hiking landscape. How about the little-known route "Hauenstein - Over the Lanzenfahrter Rocks to the Hühnerstein". Link:

Roadbook
- The start and end point is the parking lot opposite the Hördt depot, Rheinstraße 23. From there, you walk to the bridge at Michelsbach. There you can catch a first glimpse of the enchanting landscape of the Rhine meadows with their many original water channels. At this point, the Hördter Rheinaue nature reserve also begins.
- Before the bridge, turn right and follow the hiking signs of the Treidlerweg (white rectangle with green and blue symbols) initially along the right side of the Michelsbach, then through meadows, forests, and past a lake on the side, ...
- ... until you reach the flood protection dam against the Rhine flooding. Here you also come across an asphalt path used by cyclists. Then bear slightly right.
- After about 400 m, the Treidlerweg sharply turns left over the flood dam into the forest. Almost straight ahead, after a short distance, you reach the Rhine bank.
- The Treidler route now leads downstream along the Rhine and after about 3 km turns left towards the flood protection dam. Behind the dam there is the asphalted path again, which runs parallel to the dam. The Treidlerweg route ends here.
- At this fork in the path, where there is also a seating area, you have two possibilities to return to the starting point at the depot:
- Alternative 1: Diagonally opposite the dam, an asphalt path leads to Hördt (watch for signposts), along which the Tulip Tree Path (yellow diamond or yellow flower marked Tulip Tree Path) runs and is partially also used by the Way of St. James.
- Alternative 2: This variant is probably an older form of the Tulip Tree Path. The entrance to this primal path is about 600 m further south (towards Wörth) from the fork and is often overgrown. You can only find it with the GPX file. After entering the forest, the path passes a water channel on the left and also leads toward the starting point. First with the "yellow diamond", then with the "blue bar".
