The first part of the hike runs through the large forest area of the Osburger Hochwald with the old Ruwer spruce and the Ruwer spring. The landscape changes behind the Keller See dam wall: distinct meadows and fields with wonderful views of the Rösterkopf and the Teufelskopf opposite.

The route of the dream loop is laid out in the shape of an eight. From the start at the reservoir in Kell, the trail leads into the Osburg Forest, where you meet the course of the young Ruwer. The narrow forest path winds parallel to the watercourse in places. On the way to the source of the Ruwer at the Rösterkopf is the "Ruwerfichte". With a height of over 40 meters and a circumference of 3.70 meters at chest height, it is considered the strongest tree in the Keller Forest. Below the Rösterkopf is the tapped source of the Ruwer. From the source, the trail leads downhill through the extensive, sometimes mystical forest area of the Osburg Forest.

After long forest crossings in the first part of the hike, after leaving the Keller See lake via the dam crest, you pass through extensive fields and meadows with pastureland and extraordinary views. The trail runs along the Lehbach stream between Schillingen and the nature reserve through the Keller Mulde. The damp, marshy pastureland offers ideal growing conditions for bristle grass, among other things.

After passing Simons Mühle, a small pond and the village park in Waldweiler, you have a clear view of the surrounding villages behind the village. The hill offers a 360-degree view. Along the Ruwer, you reach Kell am See and follow the route to the "Dumpert" village park, which you cross before returning to the reservoir.

The Traumschleife offers a wide range of restaurants along the way.

The trail has been certified by the German Hiking Institute with 67 experience points.

    Author’s recommendation

The Hochwald Acht dream loop connects the two beautifully designed village parks in Kell am See and Waldweiler. Both parks are located in the village centers and are oases of peace and relaxation. Opposite them is the reservoir in Kell am See, the tourist center of the region.
There are numerous leisure activities around the reservoir, which are particularly interesting for families with children (indoor playground, riding stables, pedal boat hire, mini golf). The Traumschleife also has a number of places to stop and rest.

    Safety information

The Hochwald Acht dream loop includes many sections of natural trail. The 20 km long trail can generally be walked all year round, taking into account possible restrictions due to force majeure, such as ice and snow or storm damage. Due to its overall length and the altitude profile to be mastered, the trail is classified as challenging. With breaks, you should allow approx. 6 hours walking time. However, the route also allows you to walk the individual loops, which are almost identical at 11 and 9 km in length.

Some of the dream loops are steep, difficult and slippery in rainy or winter weather. Sure-footedness and a good level of fitness are therefore essential for hiking these premium circular hiking trails.

    Roadbook

We start our tour at the hiking parking lot at the reservoir in Kell am See. There, a large wooden entrance portal leads us onto the lakeside path, which we follow to the left for approx. 600 m. Above the path are the stud farm and the Hotel Fronhof. Behind the building of the local fishing club, we leave the lakeside path and turn left towards the village of Kell am See. After approx. 1 km, we have reached the outskirts of Kell am See and follow the Traumschleifen markings through Weidenstraße in the direction of the Dumpert village park. Along the still quite inconspicuous course of the Ruwer, we reach an underpass of the state road 143, which we use to get to the Kell am See sports facility. Behind the tennis courts, we turn right onto a beautiful forest mule track and follow it. The Ruwer-Hochwald cycle path runs parallel on the left above this path, and to the right there are always beautiful views of a nature reserve which, as part of the Keller Mulde, is kept largely open in the summer months by extensive grazing. After approx. 1.2 km, we reach a footbridge that leads us over the Rothbach stream; over a few steps carved into the embankment, we reach the Ruwer-Hochwald cycle path, which we cross at this point, before we now walk over largely open land in the direction of Waldweiler.
We cross the K 68, and after approx. 1.2 km, a viewing platform with a sensory bench built especially for the Traumschleife awaits us. Here you can enjoy a wonderful panoramic view - a board on the platform explains the surrounding villages and mountain ranges of the Hochwald forest to hikers taking a break. After a slight ascent, at the highest point of which you should once again enjoy the beautiful panoramic view, we now walk along field and meadow paths to Waldweiler. After a few hundred meters, we reach the multi-generation park at the Teufelskopfhalle. The park pond with benches, a children's playground and the local pub invite you to linger. We follow the Burkelsbach stream in the direction of Simons Mühle. Immediately before the mill, we turn right into Mühlenweg and then immediately turn left again to reach Manderner Straße behind a row of houses.
Immediately before the road, we follow the signs for the Traumschleife to the left across a meadow path, and after a few meters we cross Manderner Straße to turn into the street "Am Kirchweg". We walk along this road until we reach Bahnhofstraße, cross it again and continue along the street "In den Hufblättern". After a few meters, the road turns into a dirt track that takes us to a small wood on the Ruwer-Hochwald cycle path. A path leads through dense trees down to the Ruwer-Hochwald cycle path, which we follow for approx. 250 m in the direction of Niederkell.

Before reaching the first houses in Niederkell, we turn right at an acute angle onto a meadow path and follow this for a longer section of about 1.3 km. Then we turn off at a right angle, pass a small bridge and follow the edge of the forest to the country road 143 (connecting road between Kell am See and Schillingen). We cross this road and continue on the opposite side on the adjacent meadow before reaching a wooded area after 250 m, through which a path leads us to the campsite with swimming pool. With the campsite in sight, we turn right, pass the reservoir road and follow the path to the dam wall of the Kell reservoir. Continue over the dam wall, turn right in front of the Seehotel, now back on the lakeside path past Hau's am See in the direction of Landal Ferienpark. Immediately before the first houses, we turn left and follow the path in a loop past the northern edge of the vacation park. At the end of the path, we come to the K 75, follow it on a shoulder for a few meters in the direction of the vacation park before we reach the Kletterwald Kell am See via the forest parking lot on the other side of the road.

We follow the path through the climbing forest for 500 m to the north and come to a water treading pool. After cooling your tired feet in the pool, continue on the path and follow a narrow path along the Spalbach stream, which climbs slightly. Halfway up the path to the Ruwer spring, we turn east and walk along the border path between the state forest and the municipal forest to the Ruwer spring. Once there, the clear and cool spring water offers most hikers a welcome refreshment. From the Ruwer spring, we walk along a narrow path along the still very young Ruwer towards Kell am See. We walk past the imposing Ruwer spruce to the idyllic forest pond, which we reach after 1.5 km from the Ruwer spring. From there, we continue along a well-maintained forest path through the former school forest to the Layenkaul youth campsite, which is used by numerous youth groups as a vacation camp, especially in the summer months.
After passing the youth campsite, we quickly reach the district road 75 again and can already make out the eastern edge of the vacation park on the opposite side. If you still have enough stamina here, you can show off your soccer skills at the soccer facility just a few metres away before crossing the road and following a path below the vacation park that takes you back to the hiking parking lot by the lake and thus to the starting point of the hike.
