As an alternative to the Hirzer Pass, we’d like to present the slightly easier “outer loop” route here. It begins with a scenic traverse up the slope to the Stafellalm, descends a good distance toward Videgg, and later involves a considerable climb from the Streitweider Alm up to the Oswaldscharte. Here, the granite Ifinger dominates the landscape. On the other side, we re-enter the Meran 2000 ski and cable car area.

The route descends quite a bit on the way there, ending in a pasture. Incidentally, this charming mountain hamlet is home to three inns, making it a great destination for a hike. We continue slightly downhill on a road to cross the Rötenbach ravine. On the opposite slope, we veer left onto Trail No. 40 before Trail No. 19 takes us to the clearing at the Streitweider Alm, 1,560 m. Mark Zahel
