The Hirschberg is one of the standard destinations in the Tegernsee Mountains. The massive, largely forested elevation between the Söllbach and Weißach valleys is visible from afar when approaching, but it impresses less with its shape than with the fact that there is a staffed house open year-round along the ascent path. The view from the summit is quite remarkable: to the west towards Buchstein, to the south towards the Blauberg ridge, and to the east towards Risserkogel and Wallberg. Although several ascents lead to its summit, the "classic" route starts in Scharling.
At the northern end of Scharling, a sign at the inn "Zum Hirschberg" points us westward. On an asphalt forest road past the hamlet of Leiten to Hochwald; then continuing uphill through the forest on an unpaved forest road (winter toboggan run) until after about 1 hour of walking time a pull path branches off to the left (if we take this variant via the Holzpointalm, we rejoin the main path further up). We follow the forest road to the right, which takes us past Bolzeck in numerous switchbacks up to Hirschlache, 1300 m. After a sharp right turn, a steep hiking trail branches off to the left (it shortens the forest road; signposted). The forest road ends at a few small huts and the material lift of the Hirschberghaus. Now left on a steep serpentine path in 30 minutes over the larch-covered slope to the Hirschberghaus. From there, we ascend in a wide right arc on a path over the vegetated subpeak and its eastern slope to the highest point, the Hirschberg. On the summit path back down to
