Hintersee - Hirschbichl Pass
On this hike, we follow the old mule track that once connected the historic Archbishopric of Salzburg with the Pinzgau and Tyrol. Nowadays, there is a hiking trail that deviates from the old route. Impressive on this popular, forest-rich path are the views of the cliff faces of the Grundübel and Mühlsturzhörner, commonly called the »Ramsauer Dolomites«.
From the Hirschbichlstraße parking lot follow the road southwest (barrier); after about 5 minutes (at the national park emblem) turn left (signpost »Hirschbichl«) and take the footpath (trail no. 481) through the Klausbachtal – crossing the road a few times – and the Grundübelau (with suspension bridge) to the Engert-Holzstube. There, cross the bridge and continue on the left riverbank via the Bindalm, which has now been converted into a small alpine museum, to Hirschbichlpass, 1152 m. Return by the same way. In summer, however, we can shorten this route by taking the bus from Engert-Holzstube, which leaves some time for the Hintersee.
