The Krickenbeck lakes were created as a result of peat extraction from the 16th century onwards by the Nette river. They consist of four lakes: Hinsbecker Bruch, Glabbacher Bruch, Poelvenn and Schrolik. The region was declared a nature reserve in 1938. Today, large numbers of water birds, some of them rare, can be found here.
In Nettetal-Hinsbeck, we walk from the parking lot through a small alley to Schlossstraße and then turn right to the parish church. Before St. Peter's, we turn left into Oberstraße (X) and follow the "Jugendherberge" sign at the next fork. Here we also see a sign for the "Kunstweg Hinsbeck", a sculpture trail with over 20 works by contemporary sculptors, which were created for EUROGA 2002. There is also a sign for the "Geer", a medieval place of justice, which was restored on the occasion of the cross-border culture and nature project in 2002 and is located to the right of the hiking trail. We now follow the sign "Aussichtsturm" (X, E8) and turn left at a fork in the path to the 28 m high observation tower on the Taubenberg, which offers a magnificent view of the Krickenbeck lakes. We leave the tower, walk back a few meters and then turn left at a bench (X). The path leads down a few steps at the end. We cross a forest path (X) and follow A5 to the edge of the forest.
