Instead of simply going back, on this wonderfully scenic hike, we cross the Hochfelln in Chiemgau.
Whether from Ruhpolding, Brand, Kohlstadt or Bergen – hiking trails lead to the summit of the Hochfelln from all possible directions. Perfect conditions for an extensive crossing of the Hochfelln from south to north. Although we could already start hiking directly at Ruhpolding station, we want to visit the fairy-tale forest first and therefore take the village bus line to Brand. Mystical and enchanting, it first goes through bizarre rock formations, old trees, lichens and moss, then through alpine terrain up to the highest point of the Hochfelln. Not to the summit cross, but to the Taborkapelle. Here on the back, a long wooden bench invites you to linger. Today our descent is clear, we want to catch the train again at Bergen station. But next time we might descend to Kohlstadt and test the DAV ride-sharing bench or hike back to Ruhpolding over one of the many paths.
