Hiking circuit: Montbois chapel loop

Your route takes you through town and countryside to the Montbois chapel. This small chapel, built in 1588 following a major plague epidemic, was dedicated to Saint Roch, who had devoted his life to caring for plague victims. Other forgotten remains locally recall the impact of this major epidemic (plague victims' fountain, leper hospital...). Along the way, you will arrive at the François Mitterrand space. This memorial site is dedicated to the one who was, among other things, Mayor of Château-Chinon for 22 years, from 1959 to 1981, then President of the Republic for nearly 14 years, from May 21, 1981, to May 17, 1995.
Your ascent to the Calvary will be rewarded by the magnificent panorama that extends from Château-Chinon to the Loire Valley. At this spot stood the medieval castle, destroyed in the mid-15th century, whose stones were used to build the Notre Dame gate. Before finishing your route, you will pass again in front of the Hôtel du Vieux Morvan. It was here that, upon the announcement of the results, François Mitterrand experienced his first hours as President of the Republic. Room no. 15 was rented to him for the year.
