It is nothing new that the trails managed by Alpine clubs or local institutions do not always lead through the most attractive areas. On the other hand, brilliant routes such as the Heudürr circuit near the Frauengärten, which is being promoted here for the first time, are still an insider tip. The route leads along the upper edge of the terraced vineyards characteristic of the Wachau across a number of meadow balconies, accompanied by views that are among the most impressive in the region.
From the bus stop "Dürnstein Heudürr" follow the Danube cycle path towards Dürnstein to the left of the B 3, past the Watsteinwand and the Nibelungen monument (equestrian statue), to the left fork of the Pfaffental goods road marked in blue. Follow it, under the railroad track, into the Pfaffental valley (wayside shrine) and there, past the right fork of an access path to the Wachau World Heritage Trail, up to a prominent left-hand bend (junction). Take the now unmarked nature trail on the left, hiking westwards through terraced vineyards up to the Schreiberberg ridge and then up to the right (north) in twists and turns, finally up to the left into the forest and northwards to a road crossing (dilapidated dry stone wall). Follow it up to the right (southeast), then in a left turn to the red marked forest road of the Wachauer Höhenweg. Keeping to the left, follow the Wenaheide valley in a left turn to the fork after a sharp right turn. Take a sharp left and follow the unmarked road
