Helvetestind (Hell’s peak) rises up as a pinnacle between Bunes Beach and Horseidstranda providing great views of the two beaches as well as larger parts of Lofoten.
The trail begins in Vindstad, a ferry ride from Reine, and follows the start of the trail to the popular Bunes Beach but quickly finds its own trail up to the top. You can easily do both of these adventures on the same day. If you’re not camping overnight, make sure to double check the ferry schedule so you don’t miss the return journey.
Avoid this hike in bad weather as it makes it very difficult to safely traverse the ridge to the top.
Reine is the closest town with accommodation available in traditional “rorbuer”, the trademark red fisherman’s cottages.
Author’s recommendation
In case you are planning a camping trip- there are 3 otions to camp at Helvetstinden:
Bunes beach is on the foot of the mountain and offers great camping. You can do the hike in the daylight next day.
The saddle at about 400M offers a few flat places where you can set up your tent. You won't have water there but depending on the direction be sheltered from the wind.
On the summit of Helvetstinden is plenty of room to pitch a tent. Note that after rain it's usually pretty muddy at the top and you will be exposed to wind/rain.
