The Sesto Monte Elmo cable car takes you to the open heights of the Carnic ridge faster than expected. There, you are already amazed by the mighty Dolomite skyline. But on the way to the Sillianer Hütte, new, magnificent perspectives open up and the view widens in all directions. So you can confidently settle down for a longer mountain rest at the popular Helm summit. The extensive panorama, the view of the Tauern, the Rieserferner group and the Zillertal Alps, which extends to the north, will not leave you wanting for time.
From the valley station in Sesto, take the Helmbahn cable car up to the mountain station and from there follow the closed natural road (trail no. 4) up the southern slope of the Helmmassiv through forest and across meadows to the east. Then round a corner to the left to the Hahnspielhütte, 2150 m, situated in a wide alpine hollow. Follow the hollow in a right-hand bend to the east up to the southern ridge of the Helm with a fork. Turn left and take trail no. 4A up the steep, rocky, green ridge in serpentines to the summit of the Helm, 2433 m (war remains, old customs house, crucifix).Descend the southern ridge back down to the natural road crossing and, remaining on the grassy ridge, take trail no. 4A in serpentines down into the forest. There, past a beautiful larch meadow with hay huts, descend steeply in hairpin bends to the huts "In der Egge", 1705 m. Take the dirt road 60 m to the right, then turn left and follow trail no. 4A in the forest southwest down to the Helmhanghütte, 1610
