Author’s recommendation
The view of Hellsee is often obstructed by dense tree growth. Occasionally leave the paths and go down to the shore. Then completely new views open up.
Better to do the hike in winter. Then there are no mosquitoes in the swamp areas and the Uppstallfließ is not too overgrown and easily accessible.
Derived from the technical difficulty and the stamina requirements.

On the south shore there is a large steep slope directly on the hiking trail, which is not secured here.
Roadbook
We started at a free parking lot on the outskirts of Lanke. We followed a section of the large Biesenthaler Straße towards the village center and turned left into the forest opposite an old ruin. At the now immediately following fork we kept left, although the right path would not be wrong either. It leads steeply down the earth slope. We then turned left and followed the official Hellsee circular route. This leads directly over a wooden footbridge across the swamp and then continues as a narrow hiking trail always along the lakeshore to Hellmühle on the east shore of the lake. Here we turned right onto the small road and crossed the entire village once. In doing so, we crossed the Hellmühler Fließ.
Behind the village we continued to follow the circular route signs. At two forks, we always kept right in order to stay as close to the lake as possible. We also took a small unofficial detour to the lake shore. However, we soon had to return to the main hiking path because the shoreline path runs through a wet biotope that is not allowed to be entered. However, you should not go back up too early. We made the mistake of following a path-like structure and then walked right through underbrush. The actual path started a few meters further back. So don't be too hasty!
We now followed the main path, which again had circular route signs. We reached a large clearing and crossed the Uppstallfließ. At the end, we kept right past a barrier back into the forest and then directly right again to get from the wide gravel road onto a nice forest path. We now followed this until the lake shore. A small detour is still possible here. For this, a wooden barrier must be bypassed. Here ends the forbidden path through the nature reserve, but we still stay outside the biotope. At the lake shore, it goes past a wooden bench with limited view back to the main path, which now runs along the lake shore again.
At the north end we reach the Lenné Park, a former and now overgrown palace garden. We always walk straight ahead until we reach a small pond. There we turn right and immediately after left onto a barely recognizable and inconspicuous path that leads us along a stream to Lanker village street. We then return via the large main streets of the village, passing by Schloss Lanke, back to the parking lot.

Book recommendations for this region:
Equipment
Definitely wear long pants in summer for the section at the Uppstallfließ.
Swimwear is definitely worthwhile in summer. Although there are no official beaches anymore, there are numerous small safe access points to the lake especially on the north shore.
Localization
Derived from the technical difficulty and the stamina requirements.
